AWACIO's Visit to 'Darlez Orphanage

Area 8, Abuja

AWACIO visited ‘Darlez Orphanage’ in Area 8, Garki - Abuja, on the 29th of April, 2016.

ORPHANAGE VISIT
AWACIO visited ‘Darlez Orphanage’ in Area 8, Garki - Abuja, on the 29th of April, 2016. Upon our arrival we met 2 hospitable female staff members: Mrs. Chidinma, who is in charge of the gifts and provisions presented to the children and Mrs. Joy, whose primary responsibility is to take care of the children and prepare meals for them. The women shared with us that their orphanage is just a year old and is owned by former Senator Eze. With regard to their day-to-day operations, they explained that the orphanage is managed by a Mrs. Tina, who is also known as the ‘mummy of the house’. The Darlez Orphanage is currently responsible for 14 children; the eldest child is a 13year old boy, while the youngest is a 3-month old baby girl fondly called ‘Portable’.

Following the presentation of our donation to the orphanage (which consisted of food provisions, diapers, and other items); key questions were asked by AWACIO, particularly on how the orphanage sourced for funds to sustain the upkeep of the children, their facilities, and what their fundamental challenges were. Mrs. Chidinma and Mrs. Joy responded explaining that their funds come directly from the owner of the orphanage, Senator Eze and also from other charitable donations given by individuals and organizations, who visit the orphanage. They expressed that a critical challenge at the moment was a lack of laundry detergent and some food items. Mrs. Joy said they really needed food stuff such as: spaghetti, ogbono, egusi and crayfish for the children. The women explained that indomie was no longer needed as they currently have a surplus of indomie in their food pantry.

AWACIO called all the children together and advised them to always be optimistic, of good behavior and to take their academic pursuits seriously. Members of AWACIO also promised to visit the orphanage again soon.
The children and staff blessed the Lord and said some prayers, thanking AWACIO for the generosity and love they showed to the Darlez Orphanage Home.
